Staff Correspondent: Eminent novelist Shawkat Ali is no more. He died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) early Thursday.
The Ekushey Padak-winning novelist was undergoing treatment at the hospital due to lung infections and some other reasons.
The novelist contributed to Bengali fiction for the last four decades.
Shawkat Ali’s first novel was ‘Pingal Akash’. The writer’s most popular novel is ‘Prodoshe Prakritojon’.
Shawkat Ali received a number of recognitions for his contribution to Bengali literature. The awards include Bangla Academy Award in 1968, Humayun Kabir Memorial Award in 1977, Ajit Guha Literary Prize in 1982, Philips Literary Award in 1986 Alaul literary Award in 1989 and Ekushey Padak in 1990.
