Youth found dead after jumping in water off police chase

Staff Correspondent: A youth's body was recovered from water body of the district's Trishal upazila on Sunday, two days after he jumped into water body to save from police chase.

The deceased was identified as Sajib Ahmed, 18, son of Saiful Islam of Charparha village of Trishal municipal area.

After recovering the body, people brought a procession as police were inactive to find out the body.

The agitating people tried to block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and to siege the police station. But police obstructed them. Later, the situation came under calm as municipal mayor intervened.

Local sources said, Sajib, a garment worker of Bhaluka Masterbari area, came home on leave on Friday.  Police chased them when he along with several friends was playing cards on the bank of Shukni water body. Sajib jumped into the water body to save him from police. But he could not be able to reach the bank.

After one and a half hours of the incident, police returned the station. But they did not show any activities to rescue Sajib, locals added.

Later, locals recovered the body after their frantic search in the water body on Sunday, sources daid.

Al-Amin, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Mymensingh, confirmed the news.
