'Zafar Iqbal is enemy of Islam'

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: The attacker, Faizur Rahman has said, "Zafar Iqbal is an enemy of Islam that’s why the attack on him was carried out."

During the interrogation of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the attacker of Zafar Iqbal made the comment.

Although, Faizur Rahman gave some confusing information regarding the knife attack but there is no specific information yet over his involvement with any militant organization.

RAB-9 CEO Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haydar Azad Ahmed briefed reporters on Saturday midnight from Rabeya Medical College Hospital in the city following the attack on the professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

He said, "The youth who attacked Zafar Iqbal was taken to Combined Military Hospital in Sylhet Jalalabad Cantonment. He is not disclosing his identity clearly."

Regaining sense after primary treatment, he said, "Zafar Iqbal is an enemy of Islam. That's why I attacked him."

Earlier, on Saturday, an unknown miscreant carried out the attack on the renowned writer during a programme of the department of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) of the university around 5:30pm.
