31,798 hectares under wheat farming in Faridpur

Faridpur Correspondent: Department of agriculture extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme for cultivation of wheat in nine upazillas of the district during the current season.

In total 31,798 hectares of land have been brought under wheat farming with a production target fixed at 98,574 tonnes of wheat.

According to sources in DAE, upazilla wise break-up of land and production target of wheat is as follows: a total of 7000 hectares with a production target of 21700 tonnes in Sadar, 1100 hectares with a production target of 3410 tonnes in Char Bhadrasan, 4000 hectares with a production target of 12400 tonnes in Nagarkanda, 2000 hectares with a production target of 6200 tonnes in Saltha, 3500 hectares with a production target of 10850 tonnes in Sadarpur, 5000 hectares with a production target of 15500 tonnes in Bhanga, 3000 hectareswith a production target of 9300 tonnes in Madhukhali, 5398 hectares with a production target of 16734 tonnes in Boalmari and 800 hectares with a production target of 2480 tonnes in Alfadanga upazilla.

Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has supplied quality seeds and agriculture inputs to the farmers this year at fair price, it is learnt.

The output of wheat may exceed the production target if climate favours, some farmers of Sadar upazilla said when interviewed.

“Field supervisors have already been appointed in each upazilla of the district to supervise and thus make the programme a success, said sources”.
