ACC to launch inquiry against Hasina, Rehana, Joy, Tulip

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to launch an inquiry into money embezzlement allegations against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq and some other people.
According to ACC, there is an allegation of Tk 80,000 crore embezzlement against them. Of the amount, Tk 59,000 crore has been reportedly embezzled from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
The ACC took the decision at a meeting held with it Chairman Dr Abdul Momen in the chair.
ACC Director General MD Akhtar Hossain disclosed the matter while talking to newsmen on Tuesday afternoon (17 December).
Besides, Hasina is also accused of embezzling Tk 21,000 crore from eight development projects of Ashrayan, BEZA and BEPZA through abuse of power, fraud, irregularities, and corruption.
On December 15, the High Court issued a rule asking the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain the legality of its apparent disinterest in probing allegations against Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and Tulip Siddiq over embezzling $5 billion from the Rooppur nuclear power project.
Earlier, on September 3, a writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of $5 billion, equivalent to Tk60,000 crore from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) involving Sheikh Hasina and her family members.
