2 killed in separate ‘gunfights’ in city

Medical Correspondent: Two people have been killed in reported gunfights with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Badda and Mirpur areas of the city.
In one incident, Maharaz, 40, a suspected drug trader, was killed in a gunfight in Satarkul Panchkhola area of Badda on Wednesday midnight.
ASP Kamruzzaman of RAB-1 said a RAB team raided the area after being tipped off that Maharaz and his associates were there for drug dealings. The drug peddlers opened fire as soon as the RAB team reached the spot, triggering a gunfight.
Maharaz received bullet injury in the gunfight and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
In another incident, Nazmul Hasan alias Byanga Babu, 38, a listed terrorist, was killed in an alleged gunfight with RAB in Mirpur’s Beribadh area early Thursday.
Senior ASP Sajedul Islam of RAB-4 said acting on a tip-off, a RAB team went to the spot. Babu received bullet injury in a gunfight, and he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died around 3:45am.
