Secretariat Correspondent: The Paira Port Authority signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with two Chinese companies to accelerate the development of country`s third seaport in the southern district of Patuakhali.
The MoUs were signed at a function at the meeting room of shipping ministry in the city on Thursday noon in presence of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
The three MoUs were signed between the Paira Port Authority and two Chinese companies.
The two Chinese companies are China Harbal Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) and China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC).
The MoUs were signed for the construction of Paira Port main infrastructure, protection of bank and building dams, houses and health and education establishments.
CHEC will construct the main infrastructure, including connecting bridges, roads, sewerage and railway links.
CSCEC will deal with the bank protection and construction of houses and education and health establishments.
The three development components will be implemented under G-to-G (government to government) cooperation.
Speaking on the occasion, the shipping minister said the Paira Port Authority today marched one step forward in the way of building a modern seaport by singing the MoUs.
Paira Port Authority Chairman-in-Charge Commodore M Saidur Rahman, China Harbal Engineering Company Limited Joint Managing Director ML Zeng Nanhai and China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited Managing Director Li Shujiang signed the MoUs on behalf of their respective organisations. Shipping Secretary Ashok Madhab Roy was also present, among others, at the function.
