4 banks to invest in stock market

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said four state-owned banks are going to invest in stock market in September this year.

The minister made the announcement while addressing a meeting with state-owned banks, commercial banks and stakeholders at the conference room of finance ministry on Sunday.

He said, “We want to make strong the stock market at any cost. That’s why four state-owned banks are being taken to the sector.”

Meanwhile, the finance minister expressed hope that situation may improve if shares of four banks go to stock market jointly.

“There is no alternative of good companies share offload to bring back confidence of general investors,” he added.

Bangladesh Bank governor Fazle Kabir presided over the meeting where finance division senior secretary Asadul Islam, Bangladesh securities and exchange commission Chairman Professor M Khairul Hossain, finance secretary Rauf Talukdar ICB management director and others attended.
