Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: A court in Chittagong has granted nine-day remand for the five members of Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh (Huji) who were arrested from the city`s Colonel Hat area.

Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmul Hossain Chowdhury passed the order on Monday afternoon following a petition filed by the investigation officer of the case.

The Huji members are— Tajul Islam, Nazim Uddin, Abu Jar Gifari, Nure Alam and Iftisham Ahmed Sami.

Confirming the news to risingbd.com, Nirmalendu Bikash Chakraborty, additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said three separate cases were filed against them and remand for 21 days was sought against them.

Later, the court granted them remand for nine days after hearing in the case.

Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) held two persons along with arms from A K Khan area of the city early Thursday. On the information they provided, RAB held three more militants conducting a drive in a two-storey building of Colonel Hat area in the morning.

Later, RAB filed three cases against the militants under explosives, arms and anti-terrorism acts with Akhber Shah Police Station.
