50 shanties burnt to ashes in Chattogram slum fire

Around 50 shanties were burnt to ashes as a fire broke out at a slum in Chattogram city on Monday morning, causing a huge loss to low income people.

The fire originated at Poschim Madarbari SR slum in the port city, said Azizul Islam, assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service Department.

Fifteen units of the firefighters tried to douse the fire and brought it under control after an effort of around 2 hours, the fire service officer said.

The origin of the blaze and amount of losses caused by it could not be determined yet, he further said.
