MA Rahman: About 5,000 posts in different categories are lying vacant in country’s leading specialized bank-Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB).
As a result, activities of the bank have become ‘stagnant’, causing acute suffering to the farmers and common people as the vacant posts have not been filled up in the past few years.
According to sources, BKB provides about 35 percent agri-loan.
The workload of the exiting employees has increased and they are unable to discharge their duties adequately due to shortage of manpower.
According to data, a total of 5,270 vacant posts including three Deputy Managing Directors and some General Managers are laying vacant. The number of approved manpower of the bank is 15,442, but it has 10,172, sources said.
At present, Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has 1,029 branches across the country excluding Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions. It has also a plan to open a branch at every union. To fulfill its plan the vacant posts should be filled up as soon as possible, sources said.
