56 BNP leaders, activists die of coronavirus: Fakhrul

Fifty-six leaders and activists of BNP have so far died of coronavirus infections, said party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The BNP leader came up with the disclosure while speaking at an online press briefing from his Uttara residence in the capital on Saturday (June 13).

Ahsanullah Hasan, general secretary of Dhaka north city unit BNP, has died from coronavirus, Fakhrul said.

Apart from this, 12 leaders and activists of BNP have died of coronavirus infections in Chattogram division, 13 in Cumilla division, 27 in Dhaka division, one in Mymensingh division, two in Sylhet division and one in Faridpur division, he said.

Besides, 121 more BNP leaders and activists have been found infected with the deadly virus, Fakhrul cited.

Mirza Fakhrul expressed deep shock at the deaths of doctors, nurses, health workers, journalists, members of law enforcement agencies, bank officials, teachers, general people and his party leaders and activists and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved families.
