65 days' ban on fishing in Bay

Secretariat Correspondent: The government on Monday banned all kinds of fishing in Exclusive Economic Zone of Bay of Bengal for next 65 days from 20 May to 23 July.

Fisheries and livestock ministry sources said that the restriction on catching fish imposed considering the breeding of sea fishes and their conservation.

Following the ban, Deputy Director Syeda Shirin Sultana Khatun of department of fisheries said, any kinds of fishing vehicles will not be allowed in exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Bay of Bengal.

Such kinds of restriction on fishing for certain period is being imposed every year since 2015.

On the other hand, agitation was seen among the fishermen in coastal area following the fishing ban. Fishermen face earning crisis during the ban.
