83 old train carriages being added ahead of Eid

Repairing work of old train carriages are in progress at Saidpur railway workshop

Yasir Mohammed Sithun: Repairing work of the old train carriages are in progress at Saidpur railway workshop in a bid to carry more home going people comfortably and safely ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, a ritual festival of Muslims.


This year the authorities have undertaken an initiative to repair 83 old train carriages including 61 broad gauges and 22 miter gauges. In the mean time 56 carriages have already been repaired and handed over to the Lalmonirhat railway division.


It is known that the repair work of rest 27 carriages will be ended within July 20 and then it will be handed over to the railway division.


Sources in the Saidpur railway workshop said every year the railway authorities arrange special trains for carrying more passengers through adding extra carriages with the regular commuter trains. This year the authorities decided to repair 80 old train carriages, but more three carriages are being added due to enthousum of the workers.

The officials, staff and workers of the workshop are now working hard to complete their job  and they hope that they will be able to hand over the carriages in due time, the sources added.

 
Manager of the workshop Md Kudrat-e-Khuda said, “The demand for train service increases several folds in the Eid times as most of the home bound people choose train journey for more comfortable and to meet this demand the old carriages are being repaired”.


Divisional supervisor of the workshop Nur Ahmad Hossain said, “Many people can go to their near and dear ones to celebrate their Eid festival by our toils. So, the workers are inspired to do extra work for the countrymen’s happiness.”   


During a visit to the workshop it is noticed that there was no sign of frustration on the workers’ faces though they were working hard and extra hours rather than they spoke with smiling face.
