Asian University for Women to celebrate 7th commencement

Desk Report: One hundred women from countries across Asia and the Middle East are expected to graduate from AUW on May 11,2019.

Dr. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi and Professor Rezwana Choudhury Bannya will give the keynote addresses during AUW’s 7th commencement ceremony on the day, a press release said on Saturday.

Dr. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi is the Minister of Finance of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Chief Adviser to President Ghani in the areas of infrastructure, human capital, and technology.

Professor Rezwana Choudhury Bannya is a nationally recognized singer of Rabindra Sangeet (songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore) and Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Dance at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

In 2016, Professor Bannya was awarded the Independence Day Award, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh.

AUW will honor Professor Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi with a Doctorate of Law, honoris causa, and Professor Rezwana Choudhury Bannya with a Doctorate of Arts, honoris causa.

University Registrar Dr. Dave Dowland came up with this information in a press conference organized by Asian University for Women (AUW).

“AUW is deeply honored that Dr. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi and Professor Rezwana Choudhury Bannya will share their insights and experiences in their respective fields at the Seventh Commencement Ceremony.

The exceptional young women graduating will be emboldened by such daring role models”, said Vice Chancellor Professor Nirmala Rao.
