Attack on train carrying Sheikh Hasina: 30 accused sent to jail

Pabna Correspondent: A Pabna court on Sunday sent 30 accused to jail in a case filed over the attack on a train carrying the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in 1994.
Pabna additional district and sessions judge Rustom Ali passed the order.
A total of 52 individuals were sued in the case. The court issued arrested warrant against the rest of the accused.
According to court sources, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina move out for Rajshahi from Khulna on an organizational tour on September 23 in 1994. She attended many roadside rallies on her way to Rajshahi. There was a pre-scheduled roadside rally at Ishwardi station. A massive firing and bomb attacks were made on the train carrying Sheikh Hasina when it just reached Pakshi.
Nazrul Islam, the then officier-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi GRP Police Station, filed a case in this connection on the day. Nearly after 3 years, on April 3, 1997, police submitted charge sheet in the case against 52 individuals.
Obaidul Haque, Additional Public Prosecutor of Pabna Judge Court, confirmed the news.
The accused who were sent to jail are known as Abdul Jabbar, Fazlur Rahman, Shamsul Alam, Selim Ahmed, Anamul Kabir, Hafizur Rahman Mukul, Anwar Hossain Jony, Islam Hossain Jewel, Nefaur Rahman Raju, Shah Alam Liton, Mahbubur Rahman Polash, Alamgir Hossain, Tuhin Bin Siddique, Polash, Rezaul Karim Shahin, Firozul Islam Payel, Kallal, Shyamol, Eram, Atol, Shamsur Rahman Shimua, Barkat Ali, Akkel Ali, Ajmal Hossain, Moktar Hossain, Moklesur Rahman, Robi and Hakimuddin Tenu.
They all are leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliate organisations.Of the 52 accused, six died.
