Azad didn’t appear before ACC, next date May 22

Staff Correspondent: Managing Director (MD) of Ha-Meem Group AK Azad did not appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday.

He sought time from ACC to appeal before it for interrogation, and ACC has fixed the next date on May 22.

AK Azad is a former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and is also the owner of two media outlets – Dainik Samakal and the Channel 24 television station – in Bangladesh.

ACC was scheduled to interrogate Azad on Wednesday for allegedly acquiring illegal property.

On March 21, ACC Director Jainul Abedin issued a letter to Azad, asking him to appeal before it on April 3.  But AK Azad did not appear before the ACC on the day saying that he was sick.

The anti-graft body took the move just a day after the Rajdhani Unnyan Katripakkha demolished a portion of Azad’s Gulshan house in Dhaka citing the ground of not having any approved design of the building.
