Diplomatic Correspondent: Foreign Minister AKM Dr AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh will hold a bilateral meeting with Myanmar with Chinese mediation to resolve Rohingya crisis.
The Minister told this to the reporters after briefing foreign diplomats appointed in Dhaka over the latest situation of Rohingya crisis on Thursday.
He said, “The date of the meeting has yet not been fixed. Chinese ambassador met me. They will inform me over issue after they hold discussion with Myanmar.”
In reply to a query, Momen said, “China assured that the country is with Bangladesh to resolve Rohingya crisis. Both the countries--Myanmar and Bangladesh- are friends of them. The Ambassador says his country will work together with the both countries over the issue.”
Bangladesh is currently hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas.
More than 730,000 Rohingya fled to Bangladesh after the Myanmar military launched a brutal offensive targeting the mainly-Muslim ethnic minority on August 25, 2017. A UN fact-finding mission said the violence had "genocidal intent".
