Bangladesh records highest death toll in single day

Bangladesh has witnessed the record of highest single day coronavirus deaths as 40 more people died of the deadly disease in the last 24 hours.
The grim record of deaths was set at a time when the country has reopened operations of all offices, businesses, and transports after ending a general holiday which was extended in phases until May 30 to choke the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
With the latest figure, the number of total fatalities rose to 650.
Alongside the death record, the country also logged the highest single day coronavirus cases with 2,545 people having tested positive in the past 24 hours, pushing up the total number of confirmed cases to 47,153.
Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Prof Nasima Sultana, revealed the latest figures from Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, in a daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 situation.
Prof Nasima, also the DGHS acting director general (DG), said of the deceased, 33 were men and seven were women.
The death toll accounts for 1.38% of the total infected.
Earlier, Bangladesh recorded the highest number of Covid-19 deaths (28) in a single day on May 24.
