Bhabdaha waterlogging: Experts for long-term plans

Speakers at a meeting organised by online news portal risingbd.com discuss about ways to resolve waterlogging in Bhabdaha area of Jessore district.

Senior Correspondent: Experts said long-term plans along with the short-term ones should be taken to reduce the suffering caused by the waterlogging in Bhabdaha area of Jessore district.

The experts said this while speaking at a roundtable at the conference room of online news portal risingbd.com in the capital’s Motijheel on Monday noon.

Citing some reasons behind the waterlogging, speakers at the roundtable said, “Steps should be taken soon to remove river sediments. For this, a concerted effort is needed.”

Tidal river management (TRM) should be applied to remove the river sediments. But specific plan is needed to implement TRM system properly. If this system is not properly implemented, negative sides might be there, the speakers mentioned.

With Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association`s (BELA) chief executive Syeda Rizwana Hasan in the chair, Bangladesh Bank General Manager for Agricultural Credit and Financial Inclusion Department Provas Chandra Mallik, Director of Department of Disaster Management Gias Uddin Ahmed, Director of Centre for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS) Subrata Kumar Mondal spoke, among others, at the roundtable.
