Cyclone Remal: 10 deaths, 37 lakh affected

The severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ has killed at least 10 people in six districts and affected 37,58,096 people in 19 districts.

It has also damaged 35,483 houses fully and 1,14,992 houses partially.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibbur Rahman disclosed this at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Monday. 

10 people have died in Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal, Patuakhali, Bhola and Chattogram districts.

Nineteen districts have been affected during the storm, he said. These are Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Barishal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola, Feni, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Narail, Gopalganj, Shariatpur and Jashore.

A total of 9424 shelters have been opened in the coastal districts of the country and over 8 lakh people took shelter there, he said.

Besides, 52,146 domestic animals were also housed there.

He also claimed that no major damage had occurred due to massive preparation taken by the ministry following the directives of the Prime Minister.
