Economic Correspondent: Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) on Saturday urged the government not to impose VAT on the daily commodities.
The association came up with the call at a press conference at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in the capital.
CAB President Ghulam Rahman said the government has taken steps to implement the VAT Act-2012 in the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year which will help go up the prices of the daily essentials. VAT has been proposed on some essential goods, including edible oil, milk and sugar which will force consumers to pay extra price.
We hope the government will keep daily essentials out of the purview of the VAT law after discussions in Parliament, he said.
