The visiting Chinese medical experts’ team has suggested to take all necessary steps including lockdown to deal with the situation of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Bangladesh.
The team made the suggestion in a video conference with members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) on Sunday.
Yan Hualong, Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, was with the expert team for full-time. He answered various questions made by journalists in the video conference. Besides, Dr Shuming Xianyu and Dr. Haitang Liu spoke about their experience in Bangladesh.
Asked if Bangladesh is going through the peak time (final stage) of coronavirus infection, the experts said, ‘We don't think the peak time has come. It's very difficult to say. Only scientists can say how long this virus can last.
In reply to a query, Yan Hualong said China has always been cooperating with Bangladesh in combating coronavirus and will continue in future. Five Chinese companies are working on research for effective vaccines against the virus. Once the effective vaccine is found, it will be given to the countries, Bangladesh will get priority as a friend.
The experts’ team said sample tests to detect coronavirus are very low in Bangladesh. There are no laboratories in all the departments of the country. That is why many have to send samples to Dhaka for their tests. All divisions of the country do not have laboratories. For this, many have to send their samples to Dhaka for test.
Putting emphasis on much test, the experts’ team said rapid testing, rapid detection, rapid isolation and rapid treatment are now very important. Test should be ensured from suspicious cases to all levels.
The medical experts said there is very little public awareness here about the coronavirus. The number of health workers including doctors is very low. Yet with a small number of manpower, they are doing a great job.
They said corona patients should be given nutritious food along with the treatment. That's the way to build their body.
According to Chinese Embassy, the medical expert team will hand over four reports to the government over the experience in Bangladesh. The reports are likely to hand over by the next week.
The 10-member Chinese medical team with expertise in treating Covid-19 patients reached Dhaka on June 8.
The team will leave Dhaka on Monday (June 22).
