Sports Desk: Philippe Coutinho has joined Bayern Munich from Barcelona on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent next summer for €120million.
The former Liverpool midfielder has struggled in his season and a half at Camp Nou, despite some highs, and is not part of the plans for the Catalan club in 2019-20.
Barcelona's wage bill is the highest in world football and the club were keen to ease their finances by moving on one of the highest earners in their squad, with Coutinho on around €12 million per season in Spain.
The 27-year-old was left out of Barca's matchday squad for their La Liga defeat away to Athletic Club on Friday and before the game, the club's director of international relations, Guillermo Amor, revealed he was close to joining Bayern on loan.
Coutinho has made 75 appearances for Barca and the Catalans will save €20m in variables on the agreement of his transfer from Liverpool if he does not reach 100 official games for the Spanish champions.
Bayern will pay all of the player's wages, plus a loan fee of €8.5.
