DIP suspends e-passport, new MRP operations

The Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) has suspended electronic and machine-readable passport (MRP) operations.

DIP took the decision on Monday as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus outbreak.

Major General Shakil Ahmed, director general of DIP, confirmed this.

They take biometrics and retina scans for the e-passport application process.  In the case of Hajj or special cases, the MRP operations will remain open, said Major General Shakil Ahmed.

“We have suspended the operations for e-passport and MRP until further notice, considering the health risk and spread of the deadly virus,” he said.
