DoE fines oil tanker for polluting Karnaphuli

The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined oil tanker Desh-1 Tk 3 crore for allegedly polluting the river of Karnaphuli by spilling diesel in the water after an accident.
The oil tanker hit a lighter vessel ‘City-38’, anchored at Padma jetty of the port leading the tanker to leakage on Friday.
Sangjukta Das Gupta, assistant director of DoE, Chattogram, confirmed the news.
At least 12 tonne of diesel spilled into the Karnaphuli River after the accident.
