‘Don't view Bangladesh negatively’

International Desk: Malaysians should not view Bangladesh negatively just because of their workers here, says Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.

The Perak Investment, Industrial and Regional Development Committee chairman said Bangladesh was now a developing country that had modernised and had an upmarket economy.

"Their workers here do not show the true image of the country.

"They are now modern and up-to-date," he told reporters after attending a "Brand Bangladesh" roadshow at Weil Hotel here on Thursday.

"We need to change this perception and have a new mindset about the country," he added.

Mohammad Nizar said there were plenty of investment opportunities for Malaysians in Bangladesh.

"They are one of the largest exporter of apparel and garments in the world.

"Their ceramic sectors export to 89 countries, and they also exports vegetables and seafood," he said, adding that other sectors with business opportunities included construction, electronics and pharmaceutical.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md Shahidul Islam was also present there.
