Drives against illegal arms soon

Asad Al Mahmud: Law enforcement agencies have taken massive preparations to conduct drives against illegal firearms across the country ahead of the 11the parliamentary election scheduled to be held on December 30. The operation will be launched soon.

Sources said that Home Ministry has already instructed Police Headquarters and concerned agencies to get ready for the operation. Law enforcement agencies will start the special drive once they receive final instruction.

An official of Police Headquarters, claiming anonymity, said that intelligent agencies made lists of illegal firearms traders ahead of the upcoming general election. They are currently under surveillance. Law enforcement agencies are ready to launch the drive once they receive final instruction.

He further said, “There are more than three hundred illegal firearms traders in the capital Dhaka. Besides sale and buying, they also rent illegal arms to people across the county. Demand for arms increases ahead of election. Cadres of different political parties hired arms to show and grab their supremacy in the areas respectively."

According to sources of Home Ministry, the Election Commission issued directives over recovery of illegal firearms and use of legal arms.
