‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected Rohingya drug trader has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The gunfight took place in Rahmat Beel area of Ukhiya upazila under Cox’s Bazar district early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sadek, 22, son of late Abdul Jalil at Balukhali Rohingya camp.

Commanding Officer of BGB-34 Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said acting on a tip off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area.  Sensing presence of the border guards, the criminals opened fire on BGB men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.

Later, the BGB men recovered the body of the drug trader from the spot.

30,000 Yaba pills, one firearm and two bullets were recovered from the spot.
