‘Drug trader’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

Cumilla Correspondent: A suspected drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police near Gumti River protection dam in Sadar upazila on Thursday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain alias Kala Jakir, 35, son of Sultan Ahmed of Sashongaccha area in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Mohammad Abu Salam Mia said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive to arrest Kala Jakir.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Jakir and his associates opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight. Police rescued Jakir with bullet injury and he was taken to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered 1200 Yaba pills, one LG and two bullets from the spot.
He was wanted in 20/25 cases.
