Effective steps could save patients: reports at HC

Reports of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Rajuk prepared on the incident of the capital’s United Hospital fire have been submitted to the High Court.

Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder submitted the reports to the virtual HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim on Sunday.

The report of Fire Service probe body said, “Patients' lives could have been saved if effective measures had been taken to put out the fire at the Corona Isolation Center at United Hospital.”

The DMP report stated, “The hospital authorities were found negligent in preventing the fire. In addition, all three government agencies said in their reports that most of the firefighting equipment was out of date.”

The RAJUK report submitted to HC said, “The United Hospital Authorities constructed the isolation center with the permission of the Department of Health. But they did not get any approval from RAJUK.”

Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan, a lawyer for the hospital, told the court on Sunday, “We want to submit our explanation after reading through the investigation reports.”

Later, the court fixed June 22 for the next hearing and order on it.
