Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury
Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) granted bail to Sylhet City Corporation mayor (suspended) Ariful Haque Chowdhury in a case filed over the murder of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria.
An HC bench of Justice Sayed Mohammad Dastagir Hossain and Justice Ataur Rahman passed the order after hearing on the case on Sunday.
Barrister Moinul Hossain moved for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah represented the state in the court.
Earlier on January 27, 2005, four people, including Kibria, were killed in a grenade attack while addressing a rally in Habiganj district.
Later, Ariful Haque Chowdhury surrendered to court after issuing an arrest warrant against him and was sent to jail as one of the main accused in the case.
