Garment workers stage demo for wages in Kamalapur

Blocking roads in Kamalapur area of Dhaka on Wednesday morning, several hundred garment workers staged a demonstration, demanding payment of due salaries and Eid bonuses.

Confirming the matter to risingbd, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motijheel police station Yasir Arafat said workers of 'Binny Garments' in Kamalapur staged the demonstration demanding wages for the month of April and Eid bonuses.

On information, police rushed to the spot and tried to convince the agitating workers so that they end their demonstration, the OC said.

Owners and factory inspectors have sat in a meeting over how to pay their salaries and Eid bonuses, the OC added.

"It was supposed to pay them with wages for the month of April and Eid bonuses through BKash. But several days passed since the promises made by the owners to pay them. Getting no payment, they staged the demonstration," said the agitating workers.
