Global death toll from coronavirus reaches 59,141

Globally, more than 59,141 people have died, about 1,098,025  have been diagnosed with the virus, and some 228,589 have recovered, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Italy has climbed by 766 to 14,681, the Civil Protection Agency said.

The announcement on Friday came as Spain recorded its highest daily death toll - another 850 people, taking the death toll to 11,198.

The US recorded Friday its highest coronavirus deaths in one day with 1,094 new deaths.

According to Johns Hopkins University tally, the coronavirus deaths reached 7,077, whereas the cases hiked to 273,880.
There are 102,985 confirmed cases in New York only and 2,935 deaths, whereas there are 29,895 cases in New Jersey and 646 deaths.
This comes, as about 90 percent of people across the US are under stay at home orders in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Mainland China reported on Saturday at least 19 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, down from 31 a day earlier, including one new infection in central Hubei province, the epicentre of the outbreak in the country.

Of the new cases, 18 involved travellers arriving from abroad, the National Health Commission said in a statement. The new infections bring the total number of confirmed cases in mainland China to 81,639 as of Friday. China also reported four new deaths, raising the death toll to 3,326 as of Friday. 

France has reported 1120 more deaths from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 6,507.
