Govt decides to import 50k tonne wheat

The government has decided to import 50k tonne of wheat through international tender to ensure country’s food security which will cost Tk113.62core.

Singapore based private company Mrs Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprise (Pvt) Ltd will supply the wheat. Wheat will cost $268.14 per tonne. The wheat import target has been fixed at 5 lakh tonne for 2019-2020 fiscal year which was 5.5 lakh tonne for last year.

According to the food ministry, the reservation of rice and wheat stands at 15.97 lakh tonne till November 6. Of which, 12.39 lakh tonne is rice while the rest is wheat.
