Govt to build 53 chemical godowns

The government has taken up a project to build 53 chemical warehouses and godowns at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj.

The industries ministry will implement the project at a cost of around Tk 91.74 crore.

The project proposal will be placed at the Cabinet meeting for approval on Wednesday.

According to sources, land has already been acquired in Sirajdikhan area through the local district administration, and the authorities will be able to provide compensation to the land owners within the shortest possible time.

The government has taken up another scheme to build godowns for shifting chemicals from the capital’s old town. The godowns will be built on temporary basis on six acres of land at Tongi in Gazipur.

The government has decided to relocate the chemical godowns from the capital's old part in the wake of deadly fires at Chawkbazar in 2010 and 2019.

However, the sources said the government will provide plots to the chemical traders and plastic product manufacturers in Munshiganj.
