Senior Correspondent: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that the government will control social media including facebook and youtube since September next.

The Minister said this while discussing at a view exchange meeting at the capital’s Shilpakala Academy on Saturday noon.

Mustafa Jabbar said, “There was nothing in name of social media in 2008. Now nobody can pass days without social media. Now it has been turned into a big platform considering its personal, social, state and political use.”

“Many news which were not published on media but the news was circulated on social media and it reached people immediately. Besides, a lot of information on wrong deeds, injustice and corruption was published on social media,” he added.

He said, “Actually, not just social media, we live in the era of internet. But it should be kept safe. The state will play role to ensure rights of its citizen for their security.”

He further said, “There are also some problems in this case. There are several news portals which publish sometimes fake news or remours. Then, we face difficulties to shut the news portals. We will stop the all other news portals after getting lists, once the registration ended.”

He said, “The state has ability to control any website at any time if it wishes. This is a big achievement for us. We achieved the ability in the months of election.”
