Govt to recruit 70,000 pool teachers for primary schools

Secretariat Correspondent: The government has planned to recruit 70,000 ‘pool teachers’ for primary schools across the country.

Secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry Md. Akram-Al-Hossain told this to risingbd correspondent recently.


The secretary said, “The Prime Minister has announced to upgrade Bangladesh to a developed state by 2041. It is not possible to achieve this, if the primary level students fail to acquire knowledge. Every school faces teacher shortage. To resolve the problem the government has decided to hire 20 percent teachers as reserved from the existing teachers to ensure the education”.

He also said, 'We wanted to appoint 10 percent teachers, but the Ministry of Public Administration has asked us to send a proposal for recruiting 20 percent. PEDP-4 (Fourth Primary Education Development Program) consultant has been instructed to make recommendations. The teacher will be appointed through this project.

 

According to the Government Primary School Census-2011, there are 65, 529 government primary schools across the country. Of which, 38, 916 are old and new nationalized schools are 26,613. There are 3 lakh 48 thousand 867 teachers in these schools. Of which, male teachers are 1,25,057 and female teachers are 2,23,810. In the old primary schools, 68.02 percent teachers are female and 56.04 per cent in new primary schools.
