Guterres assures support for resolving Rohingya crisis

Diplomatic Correspondent: The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has assured its continued support for a durable and peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis.

The UN Secretary-General came up with the assurance when he held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in New York on Wednesday, said a press release of the Foreign Ministry.

The Bangladesh foreign minister thanked the UN Secretary-General for its support for the Rohingya crisis.

Citing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s generosity in hosting a large Rohingya community in Bangladesh, Momen urged the UN to mount pressure on the Myanmar authorities to take sincere and visible steps to create conducive environment in the Rakhine State so that Rohingyas can go back to their ancestral homes in Myanmar safely.
