Housewife burnt in Gazipur house blast dies

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: A housewife died on Saturday night after being burnt in a fire caused by an explosion at a house in Gazipur city corporation area.

The victim Aklima Khatun, 50, breathed her last at 9:10 pm while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Around 90 percent of her body was burnt in the fire.

According to police, fire service and local people, an explosion took place suddenly with a loud sound in one-storey building of Yakub Ali Mondal in the Kathra Kazibari area and later the building caught fire.

Householder Yakub Ali Mondal (60), his wife Aklima Khatun (50) and householder’s father-in-law Nur Mohammad (80) sustained burn injuries in the fire.

On information, local people rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Later, the burnt people were sent to the DMCH.

Among those burnt in the fire, Aklima Khatun succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.

Sub-Inspector Bacchu Mia, in- charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost, confirmed the matter.
