Huge rush at Kamalapur railway station

Staff Correspondent: Braving all sorts of odds, the city people in thousands are leaving capital Dhaka for their respective village homes to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha with their near and dear ones.

Dhaka city-dwellers started leaving the city on Thursday afternoon, the last day of the government office.

But, a huge rush of holidaymakers was noticed at Kamalapur railway station from early Friday.

Most of the trains reportedly lagged behind schedule and hundreds of home goers thronged Kamalapur railway station.

According to the railway sources, the Khulna-bound Sundarban Express was set to depart from Dhaka station around 6:20am, but it left Dhaka for Khulna around 8.30am. The Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express departed from Dhaka with three hours of delay.

The Chilahati-bound Nilsagar was supposed to leave around 8:00am, but has yet to leave the station as of 10:00am.

Responding to queries about the reasons behind the delay, Kamalapur railway station Manager Md Aminul Hoque said the delay in the schedule was caused by the huge onrush of home-bound passengers at the stations, and it usually takes people a long time to get onboard and off of trains at their respective train stations.
