Indefinite strike of water transport workers called off

Countrywide indefinite strike called by water transport workers has been called off.
They came up with the announcement of withdrawing the strike after the authorities acceded to fulfil their 11-point demands.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the labor department on Saturday night.
“Water transport workers called off their strike following a discussion with leaders of Bangladesh Water Transport Workers Federation”, said Md Akhter Hossain, public relations officer of Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Bangladesh Water Transport Workers Federation (BWTWF) went on the countrywide work abstention around 12:01am Saturday to press home their 11-point demand that include implementation of wage scale 2016, issuance of identity cards, service books, appointment letters.
Following the strike, river communications across the country came to a halt, causing immense sufferings to the commuters and hampering business activities.
