Kerry hails Bangladesh development

Secretariat Correspondent: US Secretary of State John Kerry has hailed Bangladesh development on twitter.

In separate twitter messages on Monday Kerry said, "Bangladesh has an extraordinary development story. Pleased to meet PM Sheikh Hasina today."

"Important discussions today in Bangladesh incl. on security issues & our strong support in fighting against violent extremism," he added.

Earlier, John Kerry arrived in Dhaka by a special flight that landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 10.10am.

The US Secretary of State held separate meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.

Kerry also paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through placing wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi in the city around 11.42am. He also visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.

The US Secretary of State will leave Dhaka for New Delhi later in the evening, the sources said.

There is an event in New Delhi on August 30, which he will be attending.
