Khaleda holds talks with President on EC formation

Senior Correspondent: A BNP delegation has held a discussion with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban this afternoon on formation of the new Election Commission (EC).

The delegation led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia entered into Bangabhaban at 4:30pm on Sunday.

The delegation included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar, Lt. Gen. M. Mahbubur Rahman (Retd), Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP leader Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, BNP policymaker Nazrul Islam Khan and BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The tenure of Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed is expiring in next February. The 11th National Parliament Election in 2019 will be held under the new Election Commission.

As part of initiatives to pick suggestions from all political parties on formation of the new Election Commission, the President today has sat with BNP.

Later, the President will sit with other political parties including Jatiya Party, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Jatitya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) on December 20, 21 and 22 respectively.
