Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given approval to documents necessary to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. She will be freed from jail anytime.
The Minister came up with the development while talking to reporters at home ministry on Wednesday noon.
He said the recommendation of Law Ministry regarding Khaleda Zia’s release was handed over to PM after completing different formalities. The documents would be sent jail authorities. Then, she will get release.
The BNP chief landed in jail after being sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a special court on February 8, 2017.
On October 30, 2018, the HC enhanced her punishment to 10 years in the case after dismissing her appeal.
On October 29, 2018, Khaleda Zia was convicted in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment by another special court in her absence.
She is currently under treatment at BSMMMU.
