Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey award winning journalist, noted cultural personality and veteran freedom fighter Kamal Lohani.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday (June 20), the Prime Minister said, “We have lost a personality having progressive mindset and an extraordinary fighter of non-communal spirit at the death of Kamal Lohani.”
She said that Kamal Lohani played a pioneering role in the Bangalees’ Language Movement, establishing self-right and autonomy as well as the War of Liberation.
He was a leading personality in establishing the spirit of the Liberation War and non-communal harmony and in spreading the culture of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina added.
The premier prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Kamal Lohani breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in the capital’s Mohakhali at 10:10 am on Saturday (June 20). On June 18, he tested positive for coronavirus or Covid-19. He had been suffering from various diseases including old-age complications for long.
