‘No alternative of Sheikh Hasina in AL’

Senior Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikha has expressed her wishes that she would not be prime minister and party chief for another term after the current tenure ends. She takes the decision to give the space to new generation. But the party leaders and activities are not supporting her decision in this regard.

On Saturday noon, Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said, “She (PM) sometimes says- I’m getting older. How much long? She expressed such of her expectation several times earlier. But she could not move away from the post due to pressure from leaders and activities.”

“In fact, there is no alternative of Sheikh Hasina in Awami League at this moment. Even, there is no alternative of her in the contemporary politics of the country. Nobody can overpass her in the last 43 years since 1975. Rather, she herself overpassed her,” he added.

Quader said this while briefing media at AL president’s Dhanmondi office on Saturday.

He further said, “PM would be aged 77 years after five years. There is no chance for her in that age too. Malaysia PM Mahathir Mohammad is currently 93-year-old and he is leading the nation as PM.  So, there is no scope of thinking that Sheikh Hasina will not be able sit on power at 77.”
