'No decision made to open garment factories'

No decision has yet been taken to reopen readymade garment factories in a bid to contain transmission of coronavirus or COVID-19 in the country.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in its website provided a general directive to all of its members where it directed them not to ask their workers, who are currently at their respective villages, to return to Dhaka until a concrete decision is taken about reopening factories.

"Considering the overall situation, BGMEA will advise you on opening of factories,” according to the website.

A zone-wise staggered approach will be adopted to open the factories in a limited capacity, it mentioned.

The association also advised for asking only the workers who are living near the factories to join work initially.
