Senior Correspondent: Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said that country’s people did not respond to the hartal called by Left-Democratic Alliance (LDA) in protest of gas price hike.
“The programme has no appeal,” he added.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister told this to the reporters after a meeting at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital on Sunday.
Quader said, “There was no appeal from people. Do you have seen any appeal from people during the hartal across the country? Do you have found any sign of hartal somewhere? The familiar scene of Dhaka has continued today as well.”
“I think, the hartal is not a weapon for mass demonstration any more in Bangladesh. The weapon has currently become rusty. Now it is not effective for movement,” he said.
Claiming gas price hike logical, Quader said, “I’m reiterating that the gas price was hiked due to adjustment. Still, the government will subsidies in the sector. So, the gas price hike was reality and logical.”
