In an attempt to contain the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19 in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has advised all concerned to celebrate Pahela Baishakh or Bangla Noboborsho this year, making no public gathering.
The premier made the direction while delivering her speech through video conference from her Ganobhaban on Tuesday (March 31) morning where officials of 64 districts joined.
"Any public gathering may bring in great danger for us. It should not be right to hold any public gathering on the occasion of Bangla Noboborsho this year amid coronavirus concerns across the world. But programmes can be arranged following digital system," Hasina told the video conference.
For the sake of public security, we earlier cancelled programmes involving 7 March Speech and Independence day, she added.
